Check Page Optimization With On-Page Grader

Location of the Research Tool links in the Moz Pro menu dropdown on the top right of moz.com.

On-Page Grader helps you understand how well optimized your page is for your target keyword and where you can improve. This is a great place to create one-off reports for your pages or see how a competitor’s page is doing.

Run a Report

To run an On-Page Grader report for a URL and Keyword pairing, follow these steps:

  1. Head to the On-Page Grader tool from the Moz Pro menu on the top right or the left hand navigation menu
  2. Enter the URL for the Page you’d like to grade
  3. Enter the Keyword you’d like to grade the page for
  4. Click Analyze

Review and Analyze Your Report

The On-Page Grader report analyzes 27 on-page SEO factors to give you a score out of 100 - the higher the better. Having a score of 100 doesn’t guarantee you’ll rank in the SERPs, but by covering the basics you're ensuring that humans and crawlers can understand what your content is about.

Within your On-Page Grader report you’ll see the following information.

  1. The Page Title parsed from the source code of the page
  2. The Meta Description parsed from the source code of the page
  3. A general overview of your report including the number of Keywords Found, Keyword Locations, and your overall Page Score
  4. Export your report to PDF
The top portion of the On-Page Grader report includes the number of keywords found and where as well as a breakdown of the factors hurting and helping your score.

Below the report overview, you’ll see Factors associated with this page. This is a great way to quickly see what may be helping or hurting your on-page SEO efforts.

  1. The 27 factors used to grade the page will be broken down into 3 views - Hurting your score, Helping your score, and All factors
  2. Click the arrow to the right to expand issue for more information
  3. Learn more about why the flag is an issue and how to fix it
In the Factors associated with this page section of the report you can learn more about why something is an issue and how to resolve it.

Critical items are placed up top while less critical items are placed lower on the list. Each factor will also have a marker beside it indicating the importance.

Red exclamation point - Indicates this factor is considered one of the most critical

Yellow exclamation point - Indicates this factor is considered the next most critical

Blue information bubble - Indicates this is a suggested item but is the least critical but still worth investigating

Green check mark - Indicates the page meets or exceeds the requirements for this factor

When you solve a suggestion it will move under the Helping your score tab. It’s important to note that all these factors are considered suggestions for how to better optimize your page. Their implementation and success is dependent on your overall SEO strategy and your site structure.
