How to Add Keywords to Moz Pro Campaigns
This guide shows you how to add tracked keywords to a Moz Pro Campaign. If you want to learn how to add or delete keywords from Local Market Analytics you can read our guide here: Add & Delete Tracked Keywords with Local Market Analytics.
You can add new keywords to your Moz Pro Campaign to start tracking your rankings, Search Visibility and competitor rankings. Once you’ve added new keywords we'll start gathering ranking data after your next weekly Campaign update.
To add keywords to your Moz Pro Campaign follow these steps:
- Head to the Rankings section in your Moz Pro Campaign
- Scroll down to the Tracked Keywords Overview
- Click on the Add Keywords button to open the keywords uploader
Option 1: Type in Keywords Comma Separated
To add keywords manually follow these steps in the Add Keywords uploader:
- Start typing in your keywords, enter a comma to indicate each individual keyword. For example ‘SEO guide’ would add one keyword, and ‘SEO, guide’ would add two keywords.
- Add Locations and Labels
- Click on the Add Keywords button to confirm
Newly added keywords will show up as marked Not Collected until after your next weekly Campaign update.
Option 2: Upload keywords in Bulk Using a CSV File
You can add keywords in bulk to your Moz Pro Campaign by uploading a CSV file. First off create a CSV file with your keywords and any labels you would like to add using the format: keyword, label1, label2 and so on where each label is listed in its own cell.
To add keywords in bulk, follow these steps from the Add Keywords uploader
- Click on the Upload CSV tab
- Click on the blue Upload a CSV button
- Add Locations and Labels
- Click on the Add Keywords button to confirm
Upload Preview
When uploading keywords via CSV you'll see a preview that lists your keywords and labels under the Upload preview field.
Troubleshooting CSV Uploads
Unexpected characters
If the Upload preview shows unexpected results, or characters, this may be due to the formation of the CSV file. You can download a sample CSV from the Add Keywords uploader.
Keywords not added
If you’ve uploaded your keyword CSV but don’t see any newly added keywords in your Campaign this may be due to the formatting of your CSV. Please before sure you do not have any extra spaces before or after your keywords, that there aren’t any unsupported characters, and that you are saving the document as a .CSV file before uploading. In addition, please be sure that no keywords are duplicated in the CSV. If a keyword is listed multiple times in the CSV you're attempting to upload, the tool will not be able to process the request.
If you’re still having trouble, please send a copy of the CSV you’re trying to upload to help@moz.com along with the Campaign you’re adding those keywords to, so we can further investigate.
Duplicate Keywords
Whether you’re uploading keywords by adding them one at a time, or using the CSV bulk upload, any duplicate keywords or labels will be consolidated. Provided they are exactly the same, including case matching.
Uppercase and Lowercase Keywords
Keywords that already exist in your Campaign will not be added as a duplicate, however this is case sensitive. For example, if you're adding a keyword with upper case letters that already exists as a keyword with lower case letters, this will be added.
Keywords with Punctuation
Using punctuation creates a whole different keyword, meaning there will be a different analysis and different metrics for each keyword tracked. For example, the keywords ‘mens clothing’ and ‘men’s clothing’ are two separate keywords and therefore, will take up two of your allotted keyword slots in the Rankings section in Moz Pro. You may see a different Monthly Volume, Rank and Ranking URL for these two different keywords.
