  • interview brand large company marketing brand magazine

Hi all, I have a second round of an interview on Tuesday for a large / internationally well known electronics & household appliances company. They are producing an online brand magazine (target group: millennials) with tips on how to use their products, among other things (e.g., how tech makes life easier). I'm not new to writing / content/copy writing, but new to SEO in the grand scheme of things - I have experience in writing blog posts, social media posts, and articles with an SEO focus, and I'm taking a course currently. But the scale on which this would be SEO focused writing is something I don't have direct experience in. The person I interviewed with is the person I'd be working with, and we got along very well - the second interview is with them and their higher up, who I need to convince. However, they did originally want someone SEO focused, so the interviewer asked me to prepare to talk about a variety of things to see my knowledge / what I could research. They include the brand magazine, using SEO with their brand / brand-focused SEO, how the brand can support their magazine, and keeping the SEO organic so the traffic goes there naturally - there isn't a plan to market the magazine on social media. Do you have any tips or resources for this so I can read / watch / learn and speak intelligently on this topic? I have a trial of Moz's pro search bar - anything there that could give me advice on tips to give them? Thanks in advance!

  • Hi All, I'm interviewing with the director of SEO of a large enterprise company tomorrow afternoon and would love some pointers. It's a relatively large company with about 3,000+ employees. There are currently 2 people doing SEO exclusively in the company and they are looking to expand the team significantly. As I understand it, my role will be to help out with link building initiatives. I currently work freelance as a content marketer for startups. While I do some onsite optimization and some keyword research, I consider building domain authority by creating quality content that gets links to be my main focus. But link building for a large enterprise may be a little less hands-on than I'm used to. I imagine I'll be working with different departments, namely these ones: Biz Dev Team PR Team SEM Team I imagine there will be some questions about how I would work with these departments to help build links. Any suggestions for working with these other teams? What other questions should I be prepared for? Oh, and here's my resume for those interested...I imagine there will be some questions about my background too: http://bit.ly/KenjisResume Thanks, Kenji

  • I recently appeared for an interview and have been asked to work on 2 case study related to Paid Advertising. I have created the strategy document for Organic and Email Marketing, I need help with paid advertising. CASE STUDY 1 The Challenge Client is a newbie (Sam’s Pizza) in online pizza delivery (veg & non-veg) services in the country. Online pizza delivery is a competitive marketplace, so the client needs to expand its marketing efforts to be among the top. The client decides to try Google AdWords to expand business. Challenge is to gain qualified traffic and to convert visitors to sales. Also, the Client is looking to make their business more efficient by using the Internet to allow customers to order food. Client needs to present its service only to certain cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai), as he isn’t providing delivery service in the whole country. The pizzas are priced competitively at 10% (avg) lower than the top players. The client chooses to allot a test budget of Rs 2,00,000 (3000$ approx) for the initial phase. You own the campaign, How would you take this forward?

  • Hi, My colleague is doing a series of radio interviews with the BBC (to be played everyday for a week and can be downloaded for a Month from the BBC website) about our business and our trade in general, but with it being the BBC we can't have any links, tweets, FB, etc links. However I don't want to miss an opportunity to try and generate some 'juice'. We can have a link to the download but anyone else have any suggestions? It is local but it is the BBC. Thanks in advance, Paul.

  • Hello everyone, I have a small quick question... I recently applied for a role in a digital agency. They got back to me offering a lower role. My question is whether I should accept it or politely decline? Also... should I ask the interviewer for the reason? I would appreciate your opinions. Regards, Talha

  • I run a small web design and digital marketing agency but we're growing fast. Since October we've employed 1 web developer and made use of a lot of partnerships to sub contract work out and get it all done. I'm now ready to employ a person to take on a digital marketing role. I potentially have someone lined up (a strong person) who has a lot of experience with PR & building relationships and she has worked with the two largest local newspaper publishers in our area. Therefore, she has a lot of connections with journalists. She has also run an events company (owned by one of the newspaper publishers) pretty much single handed for the last few years so she has some good experience in that area as far as PR and marketing goes too. However, the person I am looking for is digital marketing account manager. However, given that SEO is moving away from traditional tactics and more towards content marketing, outreach and PR I though that she might be a good fit after all and then teaching her the digital side. She will be my first employee in the digital marketing team and leading the digital marketing and SEO campaigns. I'm interested to hear people thoughts on hiring in this way or should I just stick with a traditional SEO person and help them move to the new world? (if they need it). Thanks.

  • How do I exclude what I presume to be bots from Analytics data? For example, Microsoft Corp is showing 632 visits during the last month. Pages per visit: 1. Visit duration: 0:00. New Visits: 100%.  Bounce rate: 100%. I'd block the IP address with a filter but how do I determine the proper IP address to block?

  • More and more of my clients are asking me to apply my SEO knowledge to their websites now but I'm unsure of how to price and structure it for them. I know what to do and how to do it, but I just can't decide on the best way to set out a plan for the clients. Should I just bill them by the hours that I do or is it best to create phases ie - Phase 1: Competitor analysis and on-site optimisation. Phase 2: Link building and content writing etc.. I always feel that client wants to know what they are getting for their money but don't know how to quantify what I do. Ideally I'd like to offer my services in phases but not sure how to price and what to include in that phase. Phase 1 - £xx, Phase 2 - £xx etc.. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be doing? I've looked through loads of the blog articles and questions and I can find checklists to get organised, but its mainly just how to price for the jobs I'm stuck with.

  • Hi, What are the steps people follow when arranging a meeting with a new client? I've got two meetings next week, and want to arm myself. All previous SEO work I've had so far has just landed on my desk with no need to pitch for it. Whilst I'm no stranger to selling, what steps do other people go through when visiting a potential client? I'd hate to go in after some other SEO company has really pitched well and find myself looking stupid? I obviously have a subscription here, but are there other tools people would recommend? Whilst this may be good for discussion, I'd appreciate any tips. Thanks in advance,

  • Not sure if anyone cares to share, but we are growing and quickly finding the challenges of what to pay sales people to get quality staff but still give them incentive to work hard. We've been working on a salaried position of $1500 per month with a tiered on going commission from 15%-25% of monthly revenue depending on their volume. However some people already in the biz demand quite a bit more salary. Any thoughts would be welcome!

  • Hi All, I have been at this SEO for only a couple of months with the goal of getting a job in an SEO company. My question is....What is it that SEO companies are looking for? What do I need to know for me to have a chance at landing the job? I am working on 2 sites at the moment and was thinking of applying for a job by showing them what i know and what I have done so far with these 2 companies. Is there a special way of presenting this data to them? All thoughts and knowledge welcome. Thanks again, Aidan

  • I have a fairly good understanding of my client's project and his business. I am now about to begin keyword research for the first time. My questions are - What kind of expectations should I set for giving him results 3 months down the line? - What kind of Questions should I ask? - He has given me a list of keywords he wants to target. But these are very difficult to compete for. How do I convince him that he will still get traffic for his pages? Would love to hear about how professionals in this community go about taking on this challenge.

  • My agency is constantly looking for quality inbound marketing professionals and have had no luck. We have posted ads on all major job boards, localized classifieds and have even been attending career events at colleges to find that perfect person to train. At this point, we need to hire a rock star to help kick things into high gear. We're not interested in outsourcing any of the work, and it seems as if all the talent is either self employed (and likes it) or working for another agency and is happy. » I've used social networks to scout
» I've searched through profiles in forums (and here)
» I've hired a couple of staffing companies (haven't found a good one I guess) Can anyone recommend an approach I may be missing? It's been easy for me to find talent in other areas of expertise, but SEO evolves so much and it's near impossible to find someone who gets the big picture. Any help would be appreciated! Best, Chris

  • I hope this question doesn't sound like some namedropping cheesy kind of question, the biggest website traffic wise I am involved in is the official website for the actor Sir Roger Moore http://roger-moore.com/ most famous for his role as James Bond. I agreed with Sir Roger to be his webmaster and said I will work for free because I appreciate his work as a UNICEF ambassador. In exchange I can use his website for tasteful self-promotion or to produce some personal revenue. Is it a good idea to link to my two "unrelated" busines swebsites or would that not be very productive for link juice? We all l have to earn a living and I am not rich, so I may as well try and make something from my time spent working on this high profile website. What would you do a fair  exchange for you time given free etc?

  • I have a small company that has struggled over the past three years to get on its feet.  We've finally made it in the retail sector building a nice client base and delivering beyond what is expected. I'm trying not to make mistakes and have been doing the SEO on my own with a SEO word pack plug in for our Wordpress site and all the training videos I could handle from SEOMOZ and Hubspot (forever grateful).  I have a list of 200 key words and only a handful are on the first page, but with that it has meant the difference between getting paycheck for not. It's now time for us to hire an expert.  Here's what I want. 1.  Quality back links with a MOZ grade higher than mine. 2.  All the errors fixed in my site that I don't understand from the reports generated by the MOZ tool. 3.  A weekly report of the sites that have created a link and its MOZ ranking. 4.  Ongoing support and tracking of progress with no black hat techniques. 5.  3 client references with a name and number that I can speak to. Am I asking too much?  I'm told that client information is confidential and couldn't be release.  If I'm in a completely different sector of retail, would that matter? What questions should I be asking?  If you were me, what would you do?

  • My company Click2Rank is building a new office we are opening around June. Since we will be hiring a bunch of SEOs and Programmers we want it to be basically the perfect geek hangout spot. Knowledge workers need a great place to hang their hat. So I thought I'd reach out to the community and ask.. if your office could look like anything... what would it include? You can pretty much ask for anything... xbox360? Unlimited supply of energy drinks and food? A nice big couch? Accent wall? plants? fountain? desks shaped like your favorite animal? a pinball machine? Lay it on me. Your dream work environment what does it look like (think office obviously we know for  a lot of people your dream office is netcommute from home but thats not helpful in this instance) Think about both your personal workspace as well as the total office/community space in the office. Thanks in advance! Feel free to attach pictures as well!
