Community Guidelines
Updated Dec 14, 2021
Moz wants marketers of all stripes to come together, learn, network, and share. We created this community space with the goal of expanding professional growth opportunities of all kinds for our community. We believe an explicit community etiquette is a great way to help us stay aligned with this goal and with our core values, TAGFEE.
We value the participation of each member of the online marketing community and want everyone to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Accordingly, everyone is expected to show respect and courtesy to others. This code of conduct applies to all Moz sponsored spaces, including our blogs, content, mailing lists, question and answer forums, private messages, personal profiles, company profiles, and more as well as any other spaces that Moz hosts, both online and off. Anyone who violates this code of conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from these spaces at the discretion of Moz.
This code of conduct is also part of the Moz Terms of Use, so please review those as well.
Offensive, Provocative, and Defamatory Content
All communication on the Moz sites should be appropriate for a professional community with people of many different backgrounds. Please be kind to others; do not insult them or put them down. Do not use our site or tools to engage in personal attacks, defamation, harassment, spam, offensive content, inappropriately aggressive behavior, or any illegal activities.
Moz is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of anyone in any form.
Harassment includes:
- Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion.
- Unwelcome comments regarding a person's lifestyle choices and practices in the various forms of personal attacks, defamation, and harassment.
- Deliberate misgendering or use of 'dead' or rejected names.
- Gratuitous or off-topic sexual images or behavior in spaces where they're not appropriate.
- Inappropriately aggressive behavior or threats of violence.
- Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
- Deliberate intimidation.
- Stalking or following.
- Harassing photography or recording, including logging online activity for harassment purposes.
- Sustained disruption of discussion.
- Unwelcome sexual attention.
- Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease.
- Unwelcomed and unsolicited communication to community members about products and services.
Ultimately, what constitutes harassment can be subjective and we reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to a User's account and to delete any content posted through it, without notice and at our discretion, if we deem it to be engaging in any of the behavior above.
Content Ownership
As discussed in the Moz Terms of Use, by posting or contributing content of any kind, you are granting Moz a license to this content.
Off-Topic Comments
We cherish the sense of community, friendship, and humor frequently demonstrated in the off-topic comments. However, our goal is to provide highly relevant, professional content, and to help maintain the focus of the site, we may remove off-topic comments or comment sub-threads after three replies. We believe this is a solid compromise between our interest in providing highly relevant content and fostering a fun, friendly community.
Upvotes
Please do not use upvotes for personal attacks, inappropriately aggressive behavior, or harassment. We may remove upvotes and accounts that engage in upvote abuse. If you engage in upvote abuse, you will ineligible for incentives, swag, blog promotions and other benefits, and this is entirely at our discretion.
Account Responsibility
If you have created a user account on a Moz site, you are responsible for all content posted and activity that occurs under your account, even if content is posted by others who have access to your account. Please guard your account password diligently.
Misrepresentation
Please do not misrepresent yourself or take on the identity of someone else. If you believe that someone has misrepresented your identity on the site, please contact us at community@moz.com.
Promotional Content
We don't mind if you promote a business, product, or service if the promotional content is valuable for Moz community members and relevant to the discussion. However, whether promotional content is valuable to the community is entirely at our discretion, and we will remove any link we feel is not relevant to the discussion without notice.
To be a valuable and credible member of the community, please visibly disclose any commercial relationship you have with the promoted business, product, or service, including (without limitation) reciprocal advertising agreements, conflicts of interest, or other non-consumer relationships.
Moz Content Disclaimer
This disclaimer applies to all content on moz.com including our SEO Forum and any other areas where users can submit or add content.
Moz provides information and advice based on our experience, and most content on Moz sites is based on opinions of the poster. We will sometimes limit information that we believe to be false or misleading; the practices of online marketing are rarely an exact science and your results applying this information may vary.
The Moz Blog and our SEO Forum are comprised of content from multiple authors. Authors may be Moz employees, guest bloggers, or community members like you. While Moz reserves the right to review content on the Moz Blog and the SEO Forum, we err on the side of publishing "too much" rather than "too little" material, and thus you may find content on the site that is based on unfounded opinions. Since even bad ideas and inaccurate content can be valuable to add perspective, we tend to be liberal about leaving content on the Moz Blog and the SEO Forum.
Our Q&A service is mostly run through community volunteers and users like you. Please be mindful that we don't review every question and answer, and you may not receive an answer to a question you ask at all.
