@PeterHane Create a good offsite link campaign to compliment your onsite seo.

Do your research. If the domain linking to you has a significantly lower DA than you it can bring you down if there are too many links of this type. What you need are a few powerful High DA links with some medium DA links thrown in.

.gov and .edu links are fairly powerful.

Following this I've managed to take my site from DA20 to DA46 over a 12 month period.

If you create decent content with articles people want to link to you'll find this easy.

I've been on at them for this and they don't seem to understand the problem with a chain. It ends up on the right page doesn't it is the answer lol.
I've looked at my htaccess for this and cant find the culprit. The server forces HTTPS but not HTTPS://WWW.

I've got a redirect chain happening
http > https> https.www.

I can't find how to fix this one. My site is on siteground which forces the https at server level and then onto cloudflare.

Anyone have any ideas?

Looking at your results I would hazard a guess that you were affected by the Google core update Dec 3rd.

There was a major upheaval, I felt if too. All that can be done is to analyse your sites and read through why you may have been hit.

I'm in the process of helping a client with a wedding show & supplier directory. Could anyone give me pointers as to the best practice for the architecture?

Because the suppliers and shows will be listed geographically is there a possibility for the site to seem keyword stuffed?

There are a few different ways to speed up your site.

1 -My personal favourite Cache plugin is LiteSpeed as my host uses a lightspeed server (they are popular) who is your host?

2- sign up and use Cloudflare. Both W3 Total Cache and Litespeed will interface with it.

3- Use GTmetrix to analyse your site along with page speed insights. It has a better breakdown of problems

4- Quite often it's the images that slow down your site as they are not optimised.  Smush does a decent job but my favourite is ShortPixel.  You can buy an amount of image compression for a small amount and leave it live. It works in the background perfectly.

I've decided that the duplicate content issues on my site weren't worth the effort from the amount of traffic the archive pages on my WordPress site received no I decided to no-index them using Yoast.

Now I have 60 meta no-index crawler warnings. Should I just ignore these? It seems I get warnings, either way, I use the site.

Does anyone have advice on how to move on with this?

2% is really low! I would not worry about that. Sometimes there are sites that scrape and link to you that you have no control over or the sites you link to have themselves been seen to have a negative effect.

As Kate said above competition is different for all keywords. I find ranking for geographically specific keywords fairly easy but when I broarden that only slightly I find it very hard to compete as many more companies are targeting the same thing.

The hardest thing in SEO is to identify what your customer puts into the search bar, often this is different to what we would as we are blinded by our own knowledge. Ask a child to find your site using search only and you'll soon see.

Effectdigital has hit the nail on the head there. A well performed 301 redirect is your answer and the links given are perfect.

This is a bad idea and definitely an abuse of the tool. If the link is from a good/trusted site irrespective of the negative view it will pass decent DA to you. The link will still exist and traffic will still follow it.

Essentially, disavowing a link is telling Google that the link is a threat to your site. It’s a serious action to take. So you shouldn’t disavow links indiscriminately. Like Google says, you could hurt your own SEO, and that’s not what you want.

If its an issue the first thing to always do is to contact the site owner to get it removed.

The disavow tool is to stop spammy links and defeat negative SEO attacks (which I have suffered) not as described in your question.

As a rule of thumb yes but......

one or two low DA links to your domain won't hurt but a lot of low DA backlinks sends a signal that you are trying to game the system and your serp will suffer as a result.

Moz found during one of its studies that a backlink from a high domain authority page on a low domain authority website provides more value than a backlink from the opposite.

If you are building backlinks it is best to aim for higher DA sites as they will help more than hurt.

As Andrew stated the bounce is all about the second interaction not the length of time on the page. You are encouraging that second interaction, but don't get hung up on the bounce rate entirely, I rate user experience over everything else.

Having your images open in a new tab rather than a lightbox of similar takes away the users ability to navigate your site. If you are viewing on a phone for example a new tab is a pain to close. I prefer to be able to hit the back button or a cross in the corner of the screen. If I had to close a new tab every time I think I'd leave the site alone.

Thank you so much for this, I have experienced this with one of my clients, its a real pain for the honest person just trying to run a business. We rely so much on SERP to bring in business and when something like this has the potential to affect it is most frustrating.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. In the short term it is possible to buy links and see a short gain in serp but in the long run, content is king. The algorithm is always updated to find those taking shortcuts and once found there is only a hard, if not impossible return.

Just had a lengthy chat with an SEO guy and one of the points bought up was that video on the homepage is a definite signal these days and the bots read the metas better than ever.

I'm not sure about this, I do think that videos are a thing that improves the user experience but to rank?

If it was to rank would I embed a YouTube video as its owned by Google, Vimeo for the quality or self-host but cause me to have a heavy page.

I'm a bit lost here and would appreciate some guidance.

No problem, Unfortunately, most people do view on a mobile device these days. Just having a responsive site sometimes is just not enough when it comes to user experience.  Good luck!
